Sintered Ferrite

Technomag Inc. manufactures Sintered Ferrite magnets in various sizes and specifications. We meet the highest quality standards set by MMPA (Magnetic Materials Producers Association).

Applications

Sintered ferrite magnets are extensively used in both consumer and industrial products thanks to their affordability, durability, and resistance to demagnetization. They play a key role in electric motors and generators for appliances, automobiles, and industrial machinery, as well as in loudspeakers and headphones to deliver consistent sound performance. Their strong magnetic properties also make them ideal for use in magnetic separators, filtration applications, lifting devices, and holding applications. In electronics, sintered ferrite magnets are commonly applied in transformers, inductors, and sensors, where their high electrical resistivity helps reduce energy losses. Additionally, they are found in magnetic locks, measuring instruments, and various household products, offering a reliable balance of performance and cost efficiency.

Key Features

  • Material Composition: Ceramic compounds primarily composed of iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) combined with either barium carbonate (BaCO₃) or strontium carbonate (SrCO₃).
  • Manufacturing Methods: Produced through powder metallurgy, involving mixing, pressing in a die, sintering at high temperatures, and often followed by grinding to final dimensions.
  • Magnetic Strength: Moderate magnetic strength with a lower energy product (BHmax) compared to rare-earth magnets; suitable for many general-purpose applications.
  • Shapes & Complexity: Easily formed into various simple shapes during pressing; complex shapes are possible but may require post-sintering machining.
  • Mechanical Properties: Very hard and brittle; excellent resistance to demagnetization and wear, but susceptible to cracking under mechanical stress.
  • Magnetic Orientation: Available in both isotropic (multi-directional) and anisotropic (single-directional) forms; anisotropic types offer higher magnetic performance due to orientation during pressing.
  • Surface Protection: Inherently corrosion-resistant due to ceramic nature; generally does not require additional coatings or plating.
